Chapin Preschool Graduation

Chapin has official graduated from his first stage of his academic career.  And it was just too cute.  As you see in the second picture he come into the ceremony with open arms embracing the moment an waving all!  So fun to have Jeanne and Bill Turkel (aka Abua & Dowies) along for the meaningful milestone.  We are proud of this little man...He is just an awesome kid!

Happy Mothers Day...

The most beautiful word on the lips of mankind is the word “Mother,” and the most beautiful call is the call of “My mother.” It is a word full of hope and love, a sweet and kind word coming from the depths of the heart. The mother is everything – she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness….

Everything in nature bespeaks the mother. The sun is the mother of earth and gives it its nourishment of heart; it never leaves the universe at night until it has put the earth to sleep to the song of the sea and the hymn of birds and brooks. And this earth is the mother of trees and flowers. It produces them, nurses them, and weans them. The trees and flowers become kind mothers of their great fruits and seeds. And the mother, the prototype of all existence, is the eternal spirit, full of beauty and love. ~Kahlil Gibran

Roaming...

Out and about today for Mommy Frosting and the little chicks.  All seemed very comfy even interacting with the other hens.  Now just need to be cautious as I saw a hawk flying over today.  Frosty was very excited to be up and walking around after at least 3 weeks in a laying box.  First thing she did was go take a dust bath by the cut down tree.   Boys duty tomorrow will be to get them all back in the coop where they will be safe from raccoons at night.

OMG...

Oh Mother Goodness...What a great Mommy Frosting is turning out to be.  It is just so darn cute.  She takes care of them so well and the little chicks love jumping into her downy arms.  Makes me understand that some mothering skills are just so innate.
Remember to give you kids a hug and let them crawl all over you!
Happy Mothers Day Frosting!

"Good Mommy"

Life on this little family farm is always interesting for we learn new things all the time.  This time it was dealing with a broody hen.   Her name is Frosting and she has a matching hen who is brownish orange in color who's name is Cupcake.  Guess who named them?   In any event, Frosting decide a few weeks back that she wanted to become a Mommy.   So she took to four, unfertilized eggs in the hen box and hasn't move, except to get water and food.  Oh how you can see the determination in her eyes!  So in chatting with a friend that has numerous chickens she gave us some options.  One, she could give us some fertilized eggs to switch out and she could hatch those.  Problem is not having control of what you are going to get.  We know we want hens and hens that are good egg layers.  So second choice...Find new chicks and introduce them to her.  A surrogate!  Some people do not like this option as some hens do not take to this process and kill the young.  We had confidence in Frosting and we can safely report she has taken to them as her own.  She took that 1st hen and tuck it right underneath her, then we kept giving her all six.  It was a bit cool last night, but Frosting is nice and fluffy and did a great job keeping them comfy.  Way to go Frosting...Good Mommy!
